Living in Resurrection Power

The power of Christ's resurrection is not just historical—it's available to us now

Paul writes, 'I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.' This is not poetic language—it's the central reality of Christian identity. Where in your life are you still operating out of your old, pre-resurrection self? What habits, shame, fear, or identity are you clinging to even though Christ has raised you to a new life? What would it look like to truly 'set your minds on things above, where Christ is seated'? Choose one area where you need to exchange death for resurrection life.

What does it mean to be 'buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him'? How is the Resurrection not just Jesus' victory but our victory? Where do we most fail to live in resurrection power? Introduction

The Resurrection is not just a past event that happened to Jesus. It is a present power available to us. Paul writes, 'I pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead' (Ephesians 1:19-20). The power that split the grave is at work in us, now, reshaping our lives from the inside out.

Easter is not simply 'Jesus rose.' Easter is 'Jesus rose, and so will you. And more than that, you are already raised with Him.' This is not future tense only. It is present tense. Right now, today, you are invited to live in resurrection power.

I. We Were Buried and Raised with Christ (Romans 6:1-14)

Paul uses baptism as the image: just as Christ was buried in the ground and raised on the third day, so we are baptized into His death and raised into His resurrection. We participate in His death. We participate in His rising. This is not metaphor—it's the central reality of conversion.

When you became a Christian, you didn't just join a club or adopt a belief system. You died with Christ and were raised with Him
The old you—the version of you enslaved to sin—is dead. That version cannot be resurrected. You are a new person
Therefore, 'sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace'—the power structure of your life has fundamentally changed

II. We Are Seated with Christ in Heavenly Places (Ephesians 2:4-10)

Paul writes that God 'raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.' This is not poetic language. You are, right now, positioned with Christ. You are not stranded on earth waiting for heaven. You are spiritually positioned in Christ's place of authority and victory.

This means your ultimate identity is not defined by your earthly circumstances. You are hidden with Christ in God
This means the forces that seem to have power over you on earth are ultimately subject to Christ—and you are in Christ
This changes how we face anxiety, shame, fear, and the attacks of the enemy—they cannot touch what matters most because what matters most is our place in Christ

III. Set Your Minds on Things Above (Colossians 3:1-4)

If you have been raised with Christ, then set your hearts and minds on the things above. This is not an escape command. It's a reorientation. You still live on earth. You still pay bills and parent children and work jobs. But your primary allegiance, your deepest desires, your core identity are oriented toward heaven.

'Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed'—you can put these to death because they no longer define you
Instead, 'clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience'—put on the character of the risen Christ
This is not through gritting your teeth and trying harder. It's through believing what's already true: you are already raised, you are already new, you are already positioned in Christ

Conclusion

The power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power that raises you. Not in some distant future, but now. You are already raised. You are already seated with Christ. You are already new. The question is: will you live like it?

Where are you still living as though death has power? Where are you still enslaved to patterns that should be dead? Where do you need to exchange the old life for the new? The Resurrection is not just a fact about the past. It's an invitation to a different way of living right now. Accept it.
