Big Idea: Christ has already won the victory. At the cross, he defeated sin, death, and the enemy. We stand on that victory.

Introduction

This is the crucial theological pivot: The spiritual warfare we're engaged in is not to win a victory. It's to stand on the victory that's already won.

Paul writes: 'And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.'

Jesus defeated Satan at the cross. That's past tense. The victory is complete. Now we live from that victory.

I. Dead to Sin, Alive to God (Colossians 2:13-15)

'When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us.'

Jesus paid the debt. The charge against us is canceled. We're no longer under condemnation.

'And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.'
At the cross, Jesus publicly defeated the enemy. He took away the enemy's weapons—sin, shame, death—by paying for them.

'He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.'

Jesus is supreme. The enemy is defeated. That's the new reality we stand in.

II. Greater Is He (1 John 4:4)

'You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.'

This is not future hope. It's present reality. You have overcome. Why? Because God in you is greater than the enemy in the world.

The victory is real. The enemy is real. But God is greater.

When you face spiritual attack, remember: The one in you is greater. You're not weak. You're not defeated. You're standing in Christ's victory.

This transforms everything. You don't fight for victory. You fight from victory. There's a fundamental confidence that comes from knowing the outcome.

III. More Than Conquerors (Romans 8:37-39)

'No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.'

Paul lists everything that could oppose us, and then says: None of it can separate you from God's love.

You are more than a conqueror. You're not just barely winning. You're overcoming with abundance.

This confidence comes from standing on the victory. Jesus won. And you're united with him.

So in your spiritual battles, stand firm in this: Christ has won. You're standing on that victory. The enemy's ultimate defeat is certain.

Conclusion & Appeal

The spiritual battle is real. But the outcome is decided. Christ has won.

Your job isn't to win the victory. It's to stand in the victory that's already yours.

Live from that truth. Don't fight as if you might lose. Fight knowing you've already won. That changes everything.
