Big Idea: Esther discovers her position of privilege is divine placement calling her to risk everything for her people.

Introduction

Esther achieved the dream: orphaned Jewish girl become queen of Persia, married to most powerful man. Wealth, status, security, privilege. Could live in comfort, hidden from origins.

Then everything changes. Royal decree: all Jews will be killed. Mordecai tells her: You must go to king and plead for your people.

The main point: God sometimes places us in positions of privilege not for comfort but for calling; our greatest purpose requires risking everything.

I. Hidden Identity, Preserved (Esther 2:1-20)

Esther enters beauty competition to become queen. Charm everywhere she goes. Won favor of everyone.

She had not revealed family background and nationality because Mordecai forbade. Hidden Jewish identity key. Without it, wouldn't be chosen.
She was taken to King Xerxes, attracted him more than others. Won his favor and approval. Chosen as queen.
Hidden identity allowed survival, elevation, acceptance. Yet now, being queen, positioned to save her people.

Mystery of providence. God doesn't appear in Esther's story. Yet every event unfolds toward her ultimate purpose. She didn't know why becoming queen. But God positioned her.

II. The Crisis and the Call (Esther 3:1-15, 4:1-17)

Haman, king's closest advisor, plots to kill all Jews because Mordecai refused to bow. Decree issued: Destroy, kill, annihilate all Jews.

Mordecai tears clothes, mourns. Goes to Esther: Go to king, beg mercy, plead for your people.
Esther's first response is fear. Approaching king unsummoned is death sentence. She has privilege but not immunity.
Going unsummoned is death. Esther discovers true position. Not queen safe in luxury. One called to risk everything for people.

Her privilege wasn't for comfort—it was for purpose.

III. Courage Accepting Cost (Esther 4:14-16, 7:1-10)

Mordecai responds: Perhaps you have come to your position for such a time as this. Everything led to this moment.

Esther: I will go to king though against law. And if I perish, I perish. Accepts possibility of death. Chooses people over her own life.
She doesn't rush in. She fasts, gathers people to fast. Takes time to seek wisdom and strength. When approaches king, prepared spiritually, physically, strategically.
King receives her. She invites him to banquet. Reveals identity, fear, Haman's plot. King enraged at Haman's treachery. Haman hanged on gallows prepared for Mordecai.

Esther's people saved. But outcome secondary to her willingness to sacrifice everything.

Conclusion & Appeal

Esther reveals: You think privilege is for happiness. But God may place you where you are for much larger purpose.

Esther risked life, position, comfort. She embraced if I perish. Not recklessly, but in faith.

What position or privilege has God given? What people are you positioned to help? Don't waste platform on comfort. Don't hoard position for security. Step into calling.
